Air conditioning is considered to be the most complete process for the treatment of ambient air in living spaces; it consists of regulating the conditions in terms of temperature (heating or cooling), humidity, cleanliness (renovation, filtering) and air movement inside the premises.
Air-conditioning systems include autonomous and centralized systems. The former produce heat or cold and treat the air (although often not completely). The latter have an air conditioner(s) that only treats the air and obtains the thermal energy (heat or cold) from a centralized system. In the latter case, heat production is usually entrusted to fuel-fired boilers. In the latter case, the production of cold is usually entrusted to chillers, which operate by compression or absorption and carry the cold produced by means of refrigeration systems.
